Tahoe City Loop
Recorded this track on June 26, 2011. I’ve ridden this trail many times before, starting at the Chevron in Tahoe City and dumping out behind the high school before returning to Tahoe City on the paved bike path. There are a bunch of different routes off the mountain, however, and this time we ended up a couple of miles east of the high school on North Lake Boulevard.
From the Chevron, the trail starts up the paved road through a residential area, turning into a fire road a little ways up. About a mile up the fire road, we encountered some snow, which gradually increased as we gained elevation. By the time we reached the top at about 2.5 miles into the ride, we had crossed over several snowbanks that covered the trail in places. From the top, there is about 1/2 mile of downhill to a paved road. At the end of the downhill, we lost the trail. All of the snow runoff had washed out/covered the trail. We were able to push the bikes cross-county through the trees to reach the road. We continued up the paved road 2/3 of a mile to reach the trailhead of the downhill section of the trail.
The downhill trail went fast, with many jumps over the course of a couple miles. Once reaching the meadows below, there is a network of trails that will take you to the bottom. We continued east on a fire road and took some single track off the right, past the water tanks and continuing on to North Lake Boulevard before returning to Tahoe City.
